What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

– Ecclesiastes 1:9

The phrase above is one to keep front of mind until the day you depart this world. Especially when it comes to the fitness business. In the highly competitive diet, nutrition and fitness industry, many companies, individuals and self-professed experts would have you believe they have “the answer”, or even “the secret” to helping you achieve your fitness goals. That they hold the keys to Pandora’s box.

But if you dig deep enough, you will find a common trait amongst the most experienced, successful and knowledgeable strength and conditioning professionals and the companies they lead or associate themselves with: humility.

With few exceptions, the people worthy of the title “expert” will openly acknowledge the fact that their approach and methods are not special nor unique. That they are merely standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before them.

If you’re a regular reader of this column, you’ll know we hold very strong opinions on the most appropriate methods and tools for mountain hunting preparation. But these are not “our” ideas. The material we’ve covered over the past thirty-six Mountain Fitness articles is not proprietary. It represents a body of work that was and still is heavily influenced by individuals and organizations that have been trading in the only currency that matters when it comes to the physical domain: results.

Results born out of experience, mistakes, failure and an undying commitment to constantly learn from others and question commonly held assumptions.

So with this in mind, we felt it would be appropriate for us to share some of the podcasts that have so heavily impacted our thoughts on training, nutrition and sports psychology over the past few years. This list is not complete by any means. We have literally listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts on training related topics and compiling a “best of the best” would be a daunting undertaking. But, the short list below will introduce you to some of the thought leaders in the field and, hopefully, help you sift through the endless stream of information and marketing hype that tends to pervade the fitness community.

PLEASE NOTE MANY OF THESE PODCASTS CONTAIN STRONG AND COLORFUL LANGUAGE. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IS IMMENSELY VALUABLE BUT USE YOUR DISCRETION.
